Vincent Porter is Emeritus Professor of Mass Communications at the University of Wetsminster, where he was previously Head of Research in Media, Art and Design. He is also the President of the European Alliance of Listeners' and Viewers' Associations (EURALVA), an alliance representing the interests of listeners and viewers in seven European countries.

Vincent is also an Honorary Visiting Research Professor at the University of Portsmouth where he is currently playing an active role in the AHRC-funded project on British Film in the 1970s. In addition to participating in a number of post-doctoral research seminars, he is also researching the alternative exhibition of films during the decade, notably in the nation's 700-plus film societies, and in the BFI-funded Regional Film Theatres.

In addition, Vincent has been conducting research into the emergence of the film society movement during the 1930s. He also recently introduced, edited and annotated the previously unpublished memoirs of British film producer Walter Mycroft ["Walter C. Mycroft. The Time of My Life. The Memoirs of a British Film Producer" (Scarecrow Press, 2006)]

The paperback edition of "British Cinema of the 1950s. The Decline of Deference" (Oxford University Press, 2003), which Vincent co-authored with Professor Sue Harper, will be published in September this year.
