Sue Harper is the Principal Investigator of this project. She is Professor of Film History at Portsmouth.

Sue's publication on British cinema include "Picturing the Past: the Rise and Fall of the British Costume Film", "Women in British Cinema: Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know", "British Cinema of the 1950s: the Decline of Deference" (with Vincent Porter) and "The New Film History" (co-edited with James Chapman and Mark Glancy).

Sue's role in the 1970s project is to lead and co-ordinate the research. Her own work this year has been focused on the British Board of Film Censors, and on costume film of the 1970s (on which she published an article in "The new Film History"). She is Director of Studies for Sian Barber and co-supervisor for Patti Gaal-Holmes and Sally Shaw.
