The 1970s Project

Sean Tunney recently published a book on the development of Labour Party's policies on the press from the 1970s onwards. And he has previously researched on British and European social democratic politics in the '70s.

Sean's role in the project is to help consider it in relation to 1970s society. He is interested in the influence of the political and economic context on what Raymond Williams describes as each age's 'structure of feeling'.

Above all, he wishes to consider the impact of the contest over notions of democracy, in its broadest sense, between mainstream politics, the New Right and the New Left, in this period of considerable upheaval.
