Justin Smith is Principal Lecturer and Subject Leader in Film Studies at the University of Portsmouth.
A cultural historian with a special interest in post-war British cinema, his research and writing cover film policy and finance, popular fandom, reception and exhibition cultures, and issues of identity and memory. He has published articles in The Journal of British Cinema and Television and Fashion Theory and has recently contributed a chapter on web ethnography to The New Film History (Basingstoke: Palgrave/Macmillan, 2007).
Co-leader of Portsmouth's AHRC-funded project on British Cinema in the 1970s, he is currently writing a book based on his PhD entitled Cult Films and Film Cults in British Cinema, 1968-86, from which his interest in British Cinema and culture of the 1970s originated.
